Autumn Inn Night
Frank Prior is organising another of his relaxed evenings of folk music at the Longniddry Inn. His autumn “Open Mike Night” is set for Saturday 11th September at 8pm, when people of all ages are encouraged to bring along their voices, along with guitars, mandolins, banjos, squeezeboxes and noseflutes, to name but a few. A “Frank” evening is always great fun, so do come along, even if you just want to enjoy listening to the music and chatting with pals old or new.
The Friday Night Club - S1 and up...
The Friday Night Club continues to meet twice a month on Friday evenings. One Friday is at the community centre and includes basketball, table tennis, football, arts and crafts and even a chocolate fountain during Fairtrade week! The second Friday is an outing and so far this year these have included swimming, the cinema, bowling, ice skating, a ghost trip and a beach barbecue.
Any new S1 pupil wishing to join Friday Club from next term should contact Donald (852669) or Glyn (853103).
Wednesday Club
Over sixty? Free on a Wednesday afternoon? Then why not pop in to the Wednesday Club. It resumes again on 6th October, in the church hall, time 2.30pm, and a warm welcome awaits everyone.
A great programme is planned, starting with “A Visit to Italy”, followed by a musical afternoon with the P3 children of Longniddry Primary, then a visit to Dobbies Nursery rounded off by tea at the Inn with more music at the end of the month - and that’s only for October!.
If you need transport, that can be arranged; contact Margaret Bennet on 853153.
The Club has a well-deserved reputation for cheerful friendliness – but just call in and find that out for yourself. More details needed? Ring Ellen Ellis on 852395 or Jill Wilmshurst on 853724. They’ll be happy to help out.
Longniddry Theatre Bus
The new season begins on Saturday September 25th with a visit to the Usher Hall for an evening with Nicola Benedetti, violinist.
Why not join us? Give Pat Morrison a call on 08175 852333 and she will let you have a Membership Form to complete. Return this together with the Annual Membership fee of £4 per person to cover administration costs. You will then receive newsletters giving you the choice of theatre visits for the next two or three months. These tell you the date and time of each performance and the cost, which covers your theatre ticket, the coach fare and a gratuity for the driver.
When you have selected the performances that you wish to see, just send in the booking slips, together with a cheque for the appropriate amount, by the date given. Your tickets will be delivered to you in due course.
On the evening of a show you meet at the pick-up point on Seton Road by the church and are dropped off at the theatre. After the show, the coach is waiting near the theatre door and returns you straight to Longniddry. What could be easier? Why not come and enjoy yourself?
"Memories of World War II”
Seventy years ago the Battle of Britain was at its height. Longniddry people made their own contribution to the war effort in the forces and at home. Last year we gathered together the recollections of twenty-four of them in a little book, “Memories of World War II”. If you missed out on buying a copy last year, or you would like an extra copy for a friend or relative, we still have a few copies for sale, price £3. Contact John Ellis, 852395.
